What is Tai Chi?
|

The word Tai Chi chuan means Supreme Ultimate fist is a energetic based exercise system developed to express the Tao (middle way) in action. Understanding the relationship between building health and developing self defence, aids in the development of a meditative calm state. Tai Chi and Chi Gong are one so the energetic practice found in qi gong has its roots in Taoism from yin/yang theory to energy cultivation methods. With this combination the body can be made to feel more supple and energized with a renewed sense of self empowerment and confidence.
Tai Chi practice strengthens the body in a gentle way. The slow movements between different postures that are normally held for short periods of time represent physical stimuli, which affect the cardiovascular and muscular systems. It also sharpens and focuses the mind. Flexibility is increased and balance and posture improve dramatically over time, which alleviates many aches and pains as joints and muscles loosen and poor posture is corrected. It has been proven to reduce stress by altering the brainwave pattern, via relaxation and deep breathing, which in turn regulates the release of stress hormones. With regular practice you will gain a deep sense of calm, so aiding rest and sleep. Tai chi movements generate increased chi flow through the body’s acupuncture meridian lines and through the channels of other energy systems in the body, such as the left, right and central energy channels. As a result, you effectively cultivate more chi in several ways. You can unblock it, balance it and open the flow of chi moving within and through your energy channels. Equally, increasing the flow of fluids within your body also increases the flow of chi, as they are inextricably linked. The refinement of sitting, standing and moving breathing postures gives you the ability to unlock the true powers of the mind and body. This is key to producing a relaxed and calm person.
